I really think so. I dusted off an old midi file I had in my Dropbox I got from one of those automated music generators, like the old Microsoft Songsmith, or some website like that where you pick a bunch of parameters, and it spits out the file and gives you a low-fidelity preview. I thought it would be fun to remix and tweak it up because as anyone whoever played such a file in whatever default player will open one, the sounds of it aren’t anything to call home about, even if the music might be otherwise all right. Now that I have a newer Mac Book as well, I thought I’d revisit tinkering with it, but found current Garage Band not so great in that sense, except I could play it and export, but I couldn’t find how to change what sound you get on each track, or really much at all else I could do with it. Is this otherwise wonderful free program to play around with not so accessible any more, or are we just doing it wrong?
