To turn off your iPhone normally without doing a force reset all you have to do is hold down the power button (side button) until the option to Power off or Cancel appear on the screen, then double tap Power Off and it's done. On my iPhone 8 I have to hold the power button for maybe 3 or 4 seconds and then Voiceover says "Power Off and focus is already on that button, just double tap and the phone turns off. You could also shut down your iPhone via Settings > General, the very last button on that screen is "Shut Down".
