I mean, I've experienced the "treatment" before
too. Once while on the way to volunteer at a
summer camp for blind kids in Malibu a black
friend and I as soon as we got off the freeway
got pulled over and had to do the whole song and
dance. Roll down the windows, get out, answer
where we were going, what we were doing etc. I
went into full Stevie Wonder helpless blindy
look at the sky scrunchy face mode with my cane
out for good measure. I wasn't trying to get
curb stomped by LA County sheriffs...

The only thing I'll add to this is to be very
careful when selecting which button to press. I
once was setting myself up to jump on my
treadmill. Putting the water bottle in place,
turning on the machine and getting Spotify ready
all while holding my iPhone. While holding the
phone in my hand, I must have subconsciously
squeezed the volume up and power button. I must
have then accidentally selected the emergency
call button because next thing I know, my phone
started to count down and before I was able to
cancel it, it connected to 911. I hung up as no
one had picked up yet and I figured that was
that, but the police called me back and it took
me like five minutes to reassure them that it
was a simple butt dial/accident and that there
was no emergency. It was something like 5:30 AM
so the last thing I wanted was for the fuzz to
come banging down my door. Forget police
brutality, my wife would've probably killed me
had that happened. Now, whenever I completely
turn my phone off, I am vehwwy vehwy careful on what button I double tap...

To turn off your iPhone normally without doing a
force reset all you have to do is hold down the
power button (side button) until the option to
Power off or Cancel appear on the screen, then
double tap Power Off and it's done.
On my iPhone 8 I have to hold the power button
for maybe 3 or 4 seconds and then Voiceover says
"Power Off and focus is already on that button,
just double tap and the phone turns off.
You could also shut down your iPhone via
Settings > General, the very last button on that screen is "Shut Down".
