This has been happening to me, even if I’m on a call to my ear. But, when the
screen dims, I think my phone usually goes to speaker, which is not what I
want. I push the home button one with my thumb to unlock it and the call will
go back to my ear. Been mainly using earbuds on call lately, but I assume this
glitch is still the case. Definitely not a IOS 14 bug, I’m not in 14 yet.

Subject: My phone says screen dimmed, then locks while on a phone call in iOS 14

Hi.

I’m not sure how well I like this. I start a phone call with the phone to my
ear. I then move it away, and it switches to speaker. After about 5 seconds,
Voiceover says “screen dimmed”, then after a couple seconds it locks. Nice
thing is it stays on speaker, even if you move it to your ear. If I hit the
side button, it unlocks, and I can get back to the earpiece with no problem.

Just for your information.
