Oh yes, Touch to wake, and also Shake to Undo.

Why, Wayne, do you llike facial ID better than touch ID?

Matthew,
First off, glad to hear you're updating and moving to the "other side"
as it were with Face ID. Yes, Face ID can be tricky at times, but I like it
much better than touch ID, and sometimes wish that all of the Touch ID devotees
would try Face ID for a week, versus just claiming Touch ID is better.
Regarding your questions, Yes, when you unlock the phone and stay on the Lock
screen, the phone will not automatically go to the home screen without you
performing the gesture. When I double tap on a notification after unlocking my
phone, I'm taken into that app, and then can use the Home slide gesture to get
back to the Home screen. I think there was at 1 time a setting to make the
phone unlock and take focus immediately to the Home Screen. I don't recall
where it was or the name, but perhaps someone else knows. I like having to
perform the home gesture though since it usually doesn't take any time at all
for me to get to the home screen or wherever I was before. One setting you may
wan to change is "touch to wake" which is found in Accessibility and Touch
settings. This means each time you touch the screen the phone will wake up.
This can get annoying fast, similar to raise to wake in theory. If you like for
the phone to wake up each time you touch the screen or move it, then that's
good.

Have fun,
Wayne Merritt
