Sorry Alex, the vat exemption only applies to Apple computers. I checked at Apple Bluewater and, as usual the very helpful staff looked up the relevant article.
However, there is almost some wriggle room as the iPhones could very easily be construed as computers. Maybe with the blurring of phone and computer definitions, we may be able to buy iPhones vat free. Regards James.
