Thanks Robert for this information. The Echo dot was never intended for music, unless you have the model that can connect to an external speaker. The full sized Echo and Echo Show are supposed to have pretty good sound, but I suspect nothing near the Sonos or Homepod quality.

I had an Echo Dot for a little while but decided that I really don’t trust Amazon the way I do Apple so I got rid of the Dot. The Dot did not sound anywhere near as good as either the HomePod or the HomePod Mini. It is definitely not designed for delivering quality music. All of this is pretty subjective and you have to figure out what you want to listen to and try to find out which of the streaming services and smart speakers deliver the most of what you want. I personally have found that the Apple service and devices meet my needs really well. I have the complete Sonos system. Two Play 5 speakers, the TV Soundbar and the large Sub. It sounds really good but the HomePods in a stereo pair give the Sonos a run for its money. At least to my ears. If the HomePods had been available at the time, I would have felt no need to purchase a Sonos system.
