Apparently the new Nest Audio speakers which sell for the same price as the HomePod Mini are supposed to sound very good for that price range of speakers. I think for somebody who has a Sonos system set up with Alexa there is not as much need for a HomePod, you can set up Apple Music as your default service in the Alexa app so I can ask any of my Sonos speakers to play whatever music I want to hear and it will come from Apple Music. Of course Alexa does most of your home automation if you are into this sort of thing, all of our lights are Philips Hue lights and we have a connected Honeywell T5 thermostat and all of that works through Alexa. In the bathroom a set of Sonos One speakers are all we have, in the kitchen we have a set of Sonos One speakers as well as a Google, can't remember the name, but it's one with the video/display which my wife likes. In the bedroom we have a set of Sonos Play 5, but since those don't have built-in Alexa, we also have a stand-alone Echo Dot, it's an older one, but I just ordered one of the new 4th generation Echo Dot with clock, again so my wife can easily take a look if she wants to check the time. We also have a Google Home Mini in the bedroom because when it comes to asking questions like a phone number for a particular business, general facts or even making phone calls, I find the Google Home Mini/Google Assistant is much better at it. In the living room we have a Sonos surround system, currently the original Playbar with a first generation Sonos Sub and a set of Play 1 for rear speakers, but I just bought my wife a nice new 55 inch OLED TV for Christmas, it's an LG, so we will also upgrade the Sonos because we would want the full Dolby Atmos experience and you only get this with the new Arc soundbar. I still have one old Sonos Connect which I can use to get a 30% discount on a new product so I'll use it to buy a new surround package which will save me almost $700 Canadian and I will probably sell my Playbar/Sub/Play 1 speakers as a package which should finance about half of the remaining purchase price. We then have an Echo Show 8 in the living room because of our Ring Doorbell and because it's so easy to just say "Alexa, connect to Front Door". When Apple announced the HomePod Mini I pretty much said that for that price I would buy one, but for now I won't, beyond giving me SIRI access which I do have through my phone it won't really offer anything, it would just be another device we could ask to turn on the lights or change the temperature and we can do that already with Alexa and Google Assistant. If you don't yet have any smart speakers or maybe just one Echo or Google, then a set of HomePod Mini in stereo mode would probably be quite nice.

Hi Robert, I have a pair of HomePods in the living room, and I do like them. I would like them more when Siri gets better and actually playing stuff I want her to play that’s not part of Apple Music. Stuff that I can easily get played on Google devices, thinking of foreign radio stations in particular. How would you compare the homePod mini to the homePod? Obviously, it’s not going to have the same sound. I don’t know if you have echoes. But I would be curious comparing that HomePod mini to others in its class if you have any experience there.
