Customer retention is extremely important to telecommunications
services in the United States. The industry has no new customers and
companies are working to keep the ones they have. I obtain both my
cable Internet service and cell phone service from the same company.
I also have a second phone line on my account and an iPad with a
cellular data plan. I could have bought the phone outright and it
would be unlocked after 90 days. However, I would not be able to
participate in the iPhone upgrade program where I trade in last year’s
iPhone for the current model each year. If someone has a completely
paid off iPhone, carriers are required to unlock the device in an
agreement they reached with the government. I bought my 7 from an
Apple store and was accepted on Xfinity after I wiped it and
completely restored the device so it could accept their SIM card. I
was on a GSM network and Xfinity uses Verizon which uses CDMA
technology.
