I never had to get my sim card for my iPhone from Verizon. When I ordered my iPhone 8, apple asked me who my carrier was, and I just told them Verizon. I had a lady at a local Verizon store set up my phone for me, but getting it activated or whatever wasn't any big deal. I didn't really have to do anything. I could make phone calls pretty much from when I first got my phone.
