At the Apple store, if you shop online, you're reminded to get a charger if you don't have one already. Only the Lightning cord is proprietary. Personally, I think they should still include chargers. It just saves any anxt and makes certain everyone has what they need. However, you just need to make certain you get a charger with the right kind of USB A or USBC port to fit the charger end of the cable.
