To back up your phone to iCloud, go to Settings and then click on the button at the top that has your name in it and says something like Apple ID, iCloud, Media and Purchases. Next double tap on iCloud. Now select which services and apps you want to use iCloud including iCloud backup.
I assume you would be able to use this backup after you reset your phone. Make sure the backup is complete. It should take just one evening, and you'll see it in the same location, Settings -> Apple ID -> iCloud.
