Kelly, As Arnold posted, BARD Mobile is currently unable to transfer content from an older to a newer iDevice regardless of the backup type or transfer method used. BARD's conversion to the cloud will enable this at some point in the future but when that will be is not yet known. It is a good idea when planning to get a new iDevice to make note of the BARD Mobile books on your old device as well as your reading position in those books before moving to the new device.

Instead of installing an iCloud backup, he should consider an iPhone to iPhone transfer when upgrading iPhones. A Wi-Fi connection is needed for this.
