Thanks Sieghard, This is news to me as well. The article I found, which was dated about a year before this article, said windows did not support HEIC format. So, that article was wrong since in the article you mention says windows 10 could handle these files since 2018 I think.
After turning off iCloud photos and copying the files from my phone to my computer, there are no HEIC files. This could be only used for iCloud photos or some such thing. O well. I find little reason why you would want to convert photos to JPG if they are in the HEIC format since Windows 10 can normally open them just fine and if not a simple download of an extension from the Microsoft Store ensures you can definitely open them.
