HD and SD are separate purchases and you can usually purchase SD but you can’t exchange it. What are you trying to purchase? I can look in the iTunes Store to see if the item is available. Usually when you purchase a movie or TV show, SD is a radio button and it’s usually cheaper. What device are you streaming on? My wifi, for instance, is slow as well.
