Warning: The following is meant as a combination of humor and sarcasm. There is a concept being used more and more in modern advertising, called the nudge. It is what it says, to nudge the consumer toward buying a new one, or doing whatever the ad is wanting them to do without making them feel bad about what they are doing now. Audible is the first one I have found that requires the latest version of IOS to run some feature of their app, I will bet it won't be the last. When you try to update it, it nudges you toward getting a new device if your old one woar't update to the latest and greatest.IOS. They will offer you some old version, but when you try to get it, well, you already have the latest update that will run on this device, you need to get a newer one to take advantage of this latest feature in this latest app that you know you just have to have. If they didn't offer you the update at all, you might think you have the latest update, they need you to know that you don't. I'll bet these app developers are being nudged to offer something in their latest update that can be used to nudge these people who have these old devices to get a new one. And Apple will thank them, all the way to the bank.
