You can still have calls from favourites get through. Go into the focus settings and into the do not disturb. Next, flick right until you come to the allow people button. Double tap on that. Flick right past the words "also allow" and you'll find some options including letting calls from favourites and repeat calls through. This is just like the old do not disturb but with a lot more flexibility. Similar options are available when it comes to notifications from apps.
