Just go into your son's contact card and tap on Edit in the top right corner, then tap on his ringtone and at the top is an option called "Emergency Bypass", turn this on and he will always get through.

I thought I had do not disturb figured out, but my son, who is on my favorites couldn’t reach me last night. I want to set up a repeating do not disturb from 10 PM to 8 AM every day, but allow calls from favorites. I Can’t tell if I’ve done it right or not.
