Well, you kind of answered your own question.
If you don't want it, go ahead and turn it off.
It only comes up when you change something like a password, or another privacy 
type setting in whatever app or service is using it.
Then, they send you a code, usually 6 digits, that you have to enter in a box 
to proceed.

It can get annoying, but it works well and is another layer of protection.

It is entirely up to you if you want to deal with it.

The app will probably still work even with it off..

Subject: a 2 factor question

Hi all,
I installed an app that wanted to use two factor authentication and when I 
installed it, I got a message from Apple saying that two factor authentication 
had been turned on, on my phone and I had 30 days to change this.  I could 
change it by clicking on a link.  If I leave it on, what should I do about it?  
I really don't want it though.  Any thoughts?
