Very well written article, LiDAR definitely seems to have a lot of potential. After all you can buy electronic measuring tools which very accurately can measure distance of up to hundreds of feet and of course laser rangefinders used for Hunting can measure distances of up to many thousands of yards, but this wouldn't be easily possible for a blind person because you would have to be able to aim them directly at an object or animal to get a reading. 16 feet is a good start, let's hope in time this might increase a bit to at least 30 or 40 feet which I think could be useful and also that app developers find more clever ways to use it for providing information we can use and benefit from. And of course let's hope next year or in 2023 it will not only be a Pro phone feature.
From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Richard Turner Sent: November 17, 2021 11:06 AM To: [email protected] Subject: LIDAR Feature I just learned that Judy Dixon, who wrote a fabulous book on using the camera, “Capturing and Sharing The World” available from National Braille Press in many formats, wrote an article in May of 2021 for Access World explaining the LIDAR feature in the pro iPhone models since iPhone 12 and on some iPads. I recommend reading it if you want to know more about LIDAR. The Power of LiDAR Comes to an iPhone Near You | American Foundation for the Blind | AccessWorld | (afb.org)<https://www.afb.org/aw/22/5/17555> Her book is updated as of iOS 13 and the 11 Pro; but has tons of tips that can help any blind person take better pictures. I highly recommend the book as well.
