Are there any issues with apps on your iDevice accessing files stored on that external device? Because of Apple’s closed file system, I got in the habit of purchasing the amount of iPhone memory I thought I’d ever need due to inability for some apps to play media files stored on external devices. Has the iPhone’s ability to access external files improved? Hi, There is an adapter made by Apple, and maybe others, that will allow you to use any USB stick plugged into one end of the adapter. The adapter also has a lightning port because you will have to plug in the charger to give the iPhone enough power to access the USB stick. There is a short cable with the lightning plug on the end to plug into the iPhone. It is $39 at Apple. I have this adapter and it works fine.
