I have no idea what their requirements will be. If you are buying a local physical SIM, then they may want to insert the SIM, but if you are buying a local ESim, then that can be done electronically so I doubt they would need your phone for anything; but I have not done international travel since 1997, before all this electronic stuff was popular.
