And you can of course have battery and a few other important things set as the top 3 or 4 or 5 items on the today screen and access it easily with a 3-finger swipe from left to right when you are on your first home screen.

What widgets you decide to have is totally up to you. I will just tell you that widgets come in three sizes, depending on the size you choose will depend on how much of your home screen it takes up. And if you decide to use multiple widgets, then just know that you can stack the widgets on top of each other. Just think of them as a stack of papers. So depending on which paper in your stack is currently on top will determine what widget you see along with its information. It is very easy to switch between widgets. Now stacking your widgets is just an option, you do not have to if you do not want. It is just a good way of conserving space on your home page. For specific details on how to add a widget, I will refer you to a podcast done on AppleVis. I will put the link below. Lastly I will just say that, for my watch, I also put the battery status as one of my complications on the face of my watch. This just allows me to quickly check it without having to take out my phone.
