Like Chris, I have the backtap twice set to home and the backtap three times set to app switcher. I also seldom use them because they are not as reliable or as quick as other screen gestures.
Instead, I have customized my gestures so a four finger tap goes to the app switcher and a four finger double tap goes home. I find these much easier to use than the backtap or the new slide from the bottom gesture used by phones without a home button. I encourage everyone to go to Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Commands, All commands and get familiar with how extensively these can be customized. You can pretty much set up your phone to work in the way that best suits you.
