Hi Mike,

I've no doubt you'll do everything in your power to help your friend. I just
hope she listens to your suggestions and that she effectively communicates
what's actually happening. I think directing her to Apple Accessibility is a
wise move.

Hi Alan,

I agree with you whole heartedly, but getting this person to respond to email
and fill in the blanks to explain what's actually happening has been a no go so
far.

I asked this person if I could listen to her use her iPhone over her land line
so I could hear what's being reported or not reported by Voiceover, and in this
way I might be able to help, but I haven't heard anything back. So, I emailed
her the phone number for Apple Accessibility and maybe they can help her, if
she calls them!

Stay safe & take care. Mike.

Mike,

I hate to potentially misinterpret a post but the problem you described sounds
like a sighted person used to using an iPhone in a certain way with no
knowledge of Voiceover is trying to advise your friend who also has no
knowledge of Voiceover. We would be a lot more likely to help if she could
describe specifically what she is attempting to do as opposed to saying the
phone doesn’t allow her to swipe when she’s in Voiceover. Ask her to go to
page 1 of her home screen, turn Voiceover on, place focus on the first icon in
the upper left of the screen, and then to repeatedly single finger flick or
swipe right so that Voiceover announces each icon as it advances among them. If
that works for her, I suspect the problem is with the operator, not the phone.
If this is her first iDevice, it’s going to take more than a short learning
period to get adept at using it regardless of how quickly she’s caught on to
her other adaptive equipment.

Subject: Can't Swipe With Voiceover Activated

Hi all,

an acquaintance is having a problem with a new iPhone 12 mini. Can someone
help her out? Her query is below.

Yes, Mike it is an I phone the problem now is that it will not allow me or my
sighted neighbor to swipe when it is in voice over. When she turns off voice
over it has no problem. That is where I am stuck. It is a 12 Mini. I'm going
to give myself a fairly short learning period and then it is going back. I
have caught on to all my other adaptive equipment quite readily so this is a
very disappointing venture for me.

Barbara

All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Stay safe & take care. Mike.
