You also could use the spacebar+1,4,6 to toggle the visible keyboard on the screen. With qwerty keyboards, there is usually a key for toggling the onscreen keyboard, then you would have the dictate button. But, as you say, if I'm using a keyboard, I'm going to type not dictate.
