Sometimes you have to delete the first few letters one by one, but usually once you do then doing a double tap and hold on the delete button will work. This, by the way, has nothing to do with 3D Touch, that was when you pressed harder on a button to generate different responses and it's been replaced by double tap and hold for the most part. Another approach is to turn the rotor to Text Selection, then swipe down and make sure it's set to words and then, if you are at the end of a block of text, swipe right to left to select the text you want to delete word by word, when you are done tap delete. If you want to delete all that is there use Select All and then delete.

Hi all, I really miss 3 d touch. It used to be that if you had a bunch of text like in a text message that you wanted to delete, you could just go to the end of it and press on the delete button and it would rapidly delete all of it. Now it seems that you have to press delete on every letter. This is a real pain and I'm hoping someone will tell me a wonderful work around for this. Thanks much in advance.
