I'm with Richard on this issue. There seems to be no scientific definitive 
answer but common sense and logic developed from using computers over 40 years 
tells me clearing the App Switcher of running apps is good for your device at 
certain times. I always clear the App Switcher when performance falters or when 
I'm installing an iOS update.
