Hello Diane, Photo albums in iOS are not folders in the sense as you make a folder on your PC. Think of them more like a label. You have your Albums tab and in it the first "album" you have is "Recents". I think at some point in earlier iOS versions this was actually called "All Photos" which I still think is a better description because "Recents" to me can easily be mixed up with the idea that it only contains the most recent photos whereas it contains all photos and videos and even screenshots you took. iOS also has other albums which are there by default like Favourites where you see photos you marked as a favourite,, if you have WhatsApp on your phone you may have an album called "WhatsApp" and the same goes for Dropbox or the Seein AI app. Then there are the albums under the heading "People and Places" which are the "People" album and the "Places" album. Here iOS automatically saves pictures of people and certain locations. Then you have a heading called "Media Type" and here you have albums where you can find all your videos, Selfies, Live Photos, screenshots, Screen Recordings etc. Lastly under the Utilities heading you find an album for Imports, Hidden photos and recently deleted photos.
When you make your own album and move photos into said album it will always remain in the "Recents" album and anything you find in albums like "Videos", People,, Places and so on will also still be in the Recents album where all your photos are. Actually moving a phot to an album you made doesn't really "Move" the photo, it simply associates it with the album so that when you tap on the album name you see those photos you put in it, but as for the actual physical file there is just the one in your main photo library. In other words, you are not using more storage space by mobbing a photo to an album, think of it like creating a shortcut in Windows, if you had a photo in your Pictures folder and it's a photo you want to easily access you could easily right click on it, click "Send To" and then "Shortcut on desktop", this would put a shortcut to the phot on your desktop, but it would not actually duplicate your photo and if you deleted the shortcut it would not delete your actual photo. In iOS if you delete a photo from an album you made you will be asked the following: Do you want to delete this photo or remove it from this album? If you select "Remove from Album" you will no longer have this photo in the album, but it will still be in the Recents album with all your pictures. If you selected "Delete" it would delete the photo entirely both out of the album and also it would delete the physical file from your iPhone. It is still kept in your deleted photos album for I think 30 days unless you manually delete it in there, this is sort of like a recycle bin for photos and eventually it is also deleted from there and then it's gone for good. If you delete a photo from your Recents album you get the following prompt: This photo will be deleted from iCloud Photos on all your devices You have options for "Delete" and "Cancel" and as the explanation says, if you tap delete the photo is gone although you can still find it in your deleted photos for a while. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Diane Giannetti Sent: Thursday, August 4, 2022 5:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Putting photos in an album Seigard, I am so sorry that I thanked the wrong person saying Richard. Just realized it was you. I wanted to let you know it did work and I got all my cat photos in one album. It’s great. now, , I have them in one album but they’re also in the spot where I put them originally. Do I keep them there also? I’m afraid if I Erase them, it will erase the others in the ones that are in my folder of him.
