I just checked on my iPhone and the last time I reset the cellular data and
call statistics was on March 11 which is now almost 6 months ago. In that time
I used 8.3 Gb of cellular data and I have it turned on for absolutely
everything because I have a business plan from Telus here in Canada and I
basically get unlimited data, I think it's 30 Gb at full speed and then it is
throttled.
I also have Wi-Fi assist on which means that if I have a poor Wi-Fi connection
cellular data may be used and in all those almost 6 months Wi-Fi Assist used
1.1 Mb of data. I am mostly at home or at work and I have fiber internet in
both places and a Netgear Orbi Mesh router with one satellite at home and 2 at
my business. I have also travelled to the Philippines in late March as well as
gone for a visit to my family where during the time I travelled I would have
used some cellular data for things like email, WhatsApp or Facetime calls,
checking various news apps, online banking and so on. If your WiFi is stable
and the coverage in your home is good I still claim that no or very little
cellular data is used and of course if you turn Wi-Fi assist off then no data
should be used other than Wi-Fi as long as you are connected to your Wi-Fi.

you would think so, but we have had problems where we know we’re using wifi,
but our cell data was used instead. like during lockdown here I went over, and
was home, never left, and was on wifi the entire time.
