Hello Andrew. When you bought your IOS devices, did you enroll for the Apple Care? If so, then the devices would have been registered automatically without you connecting your phone or whatever to Itunes. When you register your product it doesn't matter what ID you use as the phone or IOS device is tied to a serial number rather than your Icloud ID or store ID.
