Hi Debbie,

Voiceover wasn’t reading notifications on the lock screen when I was using an
iPhone 8 with versions from IOS 16 forward. Although I am alerted to a new
notification when the phone is locked, voiceover also doesn’t read
notifications on my new iPhone 14 Pro. Some on this list have reported they
aren’t having this problem. Apparently we are part of an exclusive group. 😀

I called Apple Accessibility yesterday, and the woman I spoke with said she
wasn’t familiar with this issue, which is weird since this has been a known
problem since IOS 16.1 came out. Granted, some are reporting this is not a
problem for them, but it certainly is for many of us. The Apple Accessibility
representative’s only comment was to use “Hey Siri”. I respect the proposed
alternative, but so hope that one day, voiceover will once again read
notifications on the lock screen.

I submitted a case with Apple Accessibility, and encourage you to do so as
well. Send an E-mail to:

Subject: Reading notifications on the lock screen

Hello,

I just upgraded to IOS 16.1 on my iPhone 8. Now when I receive a notification,
it just announces 1 new notification but doesn’t read the notification aloud. I
have to flick to it and read it that way. How can I get it to read the
notification on the locked screen when it comes in?

Thank you!

Debbie unless
