Keith, if Voiceover is on when you set up Face Id this is automatically turned off.

This feature, when turned off, does not require your eyesight to be directed at the phone. Most people, I believe, with visual difficulties turn this off., I hope this helps. I can do all of the gestures such as finding the app switcher and closing apps, etc. The only thing I cannot do is have the phone accept my facial ID which I had someone help me set up. Does anyone have any suggestions to make this work because I do not want to go back to the SE3. I’m even learning to use the power button rather than using a home button.
