As Sarah said, you can assign a code to somebody you want to give access to your home, e.g. maybe you are away and there is a problem and somebody like a plumber or electrician has to get into your house. You can set up a specific code for them and even set it up to only work on a specific day between 8 AM and 5 PM. Same would work for somebody like a dog walker. You can also unlock and lock the door remotely so instead of giving somebody a code you might have a repair person coming, but you are at work. Just tell them to call you when they are at the door, then you can unlock for them. I use this all the time, we have a local person who does heavy, German style bread baked in a woodfired oven and she usually drops off for us, if she is at the door she can call or ring our Ring video doorbell, I answer the call or notification from the video doorbell and once I know it's her I unlock the door, she puts the bread in the entry way and once she is out and the door is closed I lock it again. It's super handy and I would never go back to a regular lock with key or even one with a keypad, but one which is not connected.
