Mary, nobody can do much with a chequing account number and you have to realize
that North America is really in the dark ages when it comes to financial
transactions. I am 56 and even when I was a child I remember that my parents
paid by transferring money to whomever they had to pay and in Germany it is
totally normal for somebody who has to pay his friend back 50 Euros to get
their bank information and to send it electronically. Fortunately on the
business level this is slowly changing here in Canada and where I used to have
to send cheques to suppliers in the mail, I now log onto my payment platform
which I have access to as an Royal Bank of Canada business customer and I set
up my supplier by entering their 3-digit bank code, their 5-digit transit
number and their account number. Once that is done once I just typ part of
their name into the search box, select from which of my connected accounts I
want to pay and how much, I can include a memo such as an account and/or
invoice number and a few clicks later it's all done and 2-3 days later my
supplier get the money deposited to their account along with an email that I
sent them a payment for whichever amount along with my memo. The entire
transaction costs me one Dollar which is the same as when I write a cheque
except I don't have to spend whatever postage, buy envelopes, take the darn
cheque to the mail and then hope it doesn't get lost.

Subject: Re: T-Mobile billing

I haven’t gotten the message yet, but I expect to. Last week sometime I saw an
article in one of the tech publications talking about how T-Mobile was going to
do this. Given the number of security issues that they have had, I personally
do not intend to give them my bank account number. It’s almost enough to make
me switch carriers. But I’ll keep it. It’s going to be a pain paying each month
instead of having it automatically dealt with. But there’s no way I’m giving
them my checking account number. If somebody gets in there, you have no
guarantees at all. If something happens on a credit card You’re covered. And if
you have an Apple Card, they don’t get any information that’s useful anyway. I
don’t care about the five dollar discount. I care more about the inconvenience
of having to get online to pay it every month. Plus it’s bad faith. T-Mobile
has just had too many security issues.

Hi,

I got a notice today from my T-Mobile service that beginning on August 7, I
will lose my monthly discount unless I switch from auto pay on my credit card
to auto pay using my bank account or debit card. Has anyone else received a
similar text message?

Of course there was a link which I ignored and I will go to my account and
check in the next few days. I was just wondering if anyone else got that
message.
