The Light Detector channel of the Seeing AI app does the same thing and since it does so much more including currency recognition, instant on the fly OCR via video when you point your phone to any text as well as normal OCR where it takes a picture of a printed page + handwriting recognition, barcode recognition, people recognition and so on, the Seeing AI app is really one any blind person should have on their phone. Of course it is also nice that it is a free app developed by Microsoft which means there is small chance it will go away or become a paid app. You can also set up Siri commands to directly access the various channels, e.g. you can set it up so that when you say "Tell me if the light is on" or "Open Light Detector" that it will open the app and switch to that channel. You can also configure it to display the channels you use the most if you do a double tap and hold on the app on the home screen, e.g. you can set it up to show let's say "Light, Currency, Short Text and Product" and you can determine which order you want them to be in.

When you launch it it produces a tone. The darker the area, the lower the tone. When you get close to a light source the tone gets higher.
