Tom, first thing, if you can figure out how to get them going into trash
instead of archives. Joseph told me how, and I did, but don't remember how.
Once there, there is Select all, and you can delete them all in one whack. In
the past, before I had mine set up that way, I have done like 5,000, and it
wore me out, I can tell you for sure. I thought I'd never get them all out.

Subject: E-mail search Frustration and my Gmail Dilemma

Hi folks,
I've had a GMAIL account going back years and years, probably since 2007 or
thereabouts. When I look at the Mail icon in the dock, it says that I have
close to 100,000 unread messages, so it's clearly time for a "scorched earth"
option or perhaps the nuclear option for clearing out this stuff once and for
all. I'm tired of looking at that crap. When I go into the native Mail app on
my iPhone 12 Pro, I can search for a variety of subjects, senders, et cetera
and come up with a list of results but when I do, I don't see an option for
editing and doing a select-all, which should then allow me the option to delete
all, which is what I want to do. Is there a way to do this in the native Mail
app, or am I stuck with dealing with the Gmail website, which is a royal pain
in the butt, in my opinion? Please help, as I've been wrestling with this for
days now and I'm getting increasingly frustrated.
I am not fond of the Gmail web interface and would like to anything
that I can do to avoid using it on my Windows PC. If I absolutely have to use
Safari and it works, that's OK, I'll do that. I just want to get the job done.
Just to clarify a bit, I have labels for friends, family, saved messages, the
JAWS list and vi-phone list that I don't want to mess with. My primary concern
is about stuff that's been lying around in my inbox for all this time, or
before the last six months or so.
Any help with step-by-step instructions that will work are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Tom
