Hi Jim, I had somebody that recently occurred the same problem with an iPad. And it stayed stuck in update mode. And she ended up googling around, and found out that it was a known issue with Apple. But I don't know if she ended up getting it set up or not. I just found out from sources that she did. She ended up calling Apple and they helped her. I recommend you do the same if you haven't already.
