I have a regular TPU-type thin case on my iPhone 13 Pro and there is nothing finicky about putting the phone on the charger. I have a Belkin 3-in-1 charging stand which has a base where you can charge a set of Earpods, then there is a sort of stainless steel T which comes up and then has arms to the left and to the right. On the right is the Apple Watch charger and on the left is a larger, rubber-coated disk for the iPhone and it just sticks to it as soon as I place it there.
