For your purposes it obviously works fine, but if you want something for
luggage, a backpack or similar item an Airtag or one of the few other devices
which use the Apple Find My network will definitely be a better choice. When
you read reviews about the best Bluetooth trackers Airtags are consistently
rated at the top because of the vast network of Apple devices out there.
However, there are primarily two alternatives somebody may want to consider,
Eufy and Chipolo. I just ordered 3 of the Eufy devices because according to the
reviews they make a much louder sound, have better Bluetooth range for using
them locally and if you have a Eufy tracker and press the button on it it makes
your iPhone ring even if it is muted. I believe both Eufy (which I read is from
Anker) and Chipolo also make a "card" format tracker which is more suitable for
inside a wallet. Only drawback there is that the card trackers don't have a
replaceable battery, they say they last about 3 years, but after that they
become e-waste which is one reason why I would nevber buy one. The other ones
and I believe the actual Airtags as well just use a CR2032 coin-cell battery
you can replace and which is supposed to last for about a year. I bought the 3
Eufy trackers to put on keys at my retail store because some of my staff have a
tendancy to sometimes leave them in places where they don't get found again for
several weeks so hopefully this will solve this problem. If they work well I
will probably buy a couple more for when my wife and I go to the Philippines in
late February, I am really curious to put one in our suitcase and to see how
well I can track it. The Eufy trackers I just bought were $29.99 Canadian, but
there was a $5 off discount code available so I got 3 of them for $74.97 +
taxes. I think that is a little cheaper than Airtags, but even at the same
price these seem to have a few advantages because to my knowledge you can't
make a muted iPhone ring with an Airtag and then there is the louder alarm tone
which could also come in handy even for somebody like me who does not deal with
any sort of hearing loss.

Best regards,
Sieghard

About the same cost as the Air Tag, just under $30. There’s no replaceable
battery but they’re supposed to work up to 3 years, and I think are guaranteed
for at least 1 year.

The tune they play is pretty cute too 😀 My cats come running when they hear the
tune, lol.
