Shane,

There are plenty of music stores to buy from, but the reality is you
need some way to get that content onto the iPhone. I agree, iTunes is
a very different approach to what I was used to before I got an
iPhone, but I think there's a way to set it up to meet everyone's
needs. I, for example, used to transfer folders of music to my
smartphones and MP3 players. I had, for example, folders containing
individual albums, as well as folders containing songs not tied to
specific albums. In iTunes I simply use playlists to represent
"folders" and just think of them as folders. Even though you can
browse albums, artists, etc. I still make playlists for, for instance,
full albums. This way I can see them altogether and it gives me the
feeling of browsing a list of folders, if you will. Of course, that's
my own personal way of setting it up but you may well find a way that
you prefer. But I urge you to give it a try! For a small price per
year you can even have everything updated over the internet ithout
your having to think about it. No need to so much as connect your
iPhone to the computer.

File management apps are fine but you lose out on a lot of
functionality which you could get by using the native music library,
such as waking up to songs, or requesting music that you want to hear
with your voice via Siri or voice control.
