Not if automatic updates is on. I don't use automatic update.  I check for updates by doing a single finger triple tap on the app store icon, then flicking right to updates and double tapping. Then I touch near the bottom of the screen and do a three finger swipe down to refresh the screen.  Then I read about the app updates before updating.
