But that exactly is the beauty of IMAP or Exchange, you deal with yoru email on whichever device you prefer and when you pick up your other device it's exactly the same since really you are making the changes on the server and whatever device you use just shows a mirror copy of what is on the server. As soon as two devices are involved I don't understand why you would not want it to be this way. If you do most of your email on your laptop then once you deal with it your iPhone will show it this way. I fyou delete a message it's gone, if you move it to a folder then that is where you find it and if you reply to it and keep it in your Inbox then you will see on your iPhone that it's been replied to as well and the reply you sent will also be there. On the other hand, if you are out and about and end up having to deal with an email on your iPhone, then this will also show on your laptop and whether you delete it after you ready it or reply to it or whether you move it to a mailbox or leave it in the Inbox, it will be like that on your laptop. If you want to keep it but prefer to use the laptop to move it, then you will see that it has been read or replied to, but you can just leave it in the Inbox to deal with it when you are back at your computer.
