Jim,

You use the phone to phone transfer feature which will transfer all your
settings and such over from your iPhhone 15 Pro to your new phone and then, as
you said, you also restore your iCloud backup. I haven’t doen this in a while,
can’t remember if when you do the quick transfer which you are asked for when
you start to set up your new phone also initiates the iCloud backup or if you
have to select this option manually.
If you have old apps on your phone which you don’t think you want on your new
phone I would simply delete them first before doing the transfer; setting up a
phone from scratch is hours of work depending on how much content you have, how
many apps y ou have to sign in to and all that and unless you have a serious
issue with your phone I don’t recommend it and I don’t think it is necessary.

Also, just out of curiosity, why did you upgrade from a 15 Pro to a 16 Pro? You
already had a phone which supports Apple Intelligence and which had an action
button and also you already had a USB-C port.
The only thing you gain with a 16 Pro is the new camera button and a slightly
faster processor, but I doubt you will notice that a lot in day-to-day use.
OK, so there are some other differences such as probavbly a little better
battery life and the iPhone 16 Pro supports Wi-Fi 7 which I doubt you have and
probably won’t have for a few more years, a few camera improvements but that’s
mostly it. As I said, I’m just curious. I will most likely get an iPhone 16 Pro
as well this year, but then I only have an iPhone 13 Pro now and I do look
forward to Apple Intelligence features, I very much prefer to have a phone with
USB-C cable so I can finally get rid of all my Lightning cables and I imagine
that I would make use of the action button and definitely of the camera button
since I actually take pictures quite a lot. But I still haven’t totally decided
if I might not safe myself a few hundred Dollars and just get a regular iPhhone
16 which has just about everything the iPhhone 16 Pro has except for the
difference between 3x and 5x optical zoom, the 120 Herts Promotion display
which for a blind person probably isn’t a big deal and the one extra core in
the processor which again you probably never notice unless you do a lot of
gaming or heavy-duty video editing etc. The only reason why I would get a Pro
phone is the LiDAR sensor especially if as I heard it might have expanded
capabilities now, but I’m still waiting for Jonathan or somebody do explain
this further.

Subject: Thoughts and Upgrades

Good morning!
I have a couple questions for you as I upgrade to a new phone today. This time
though, I’m getting it in the mail, whereas in the past, I’ve always gotten it
at the store. While I know the answers are going to be personal choice, I am
curious as to what some of you have done or experienced.
First, how easy is it to transfer from one phone to a new one? I’ve always done
it at the store. How easy is the phone syncing, and how flawless is the
transition?
Also, in the past, I’ve always just done a restore from the cloud, which brings
everything to the new phone. I began wondering, with the new IOS and future
Apple Intelligence, if it would be better to start from scratch and then
download the things I want.
I currently have several apps and things on my phone that either are old or
that I don’t use. But, I have several folders as well.
I just wonder what the advantages are of one over the other.
Finally, I’m trying to remember. I’ll have to reconnect or re-pair all
Bluetooth devices, correct? Those settings don’t transfer, right?
I’m looking forward to using this new iPhone 16 pro!
Jim
