And typically the really good offers from the carriers are for phones that are
a year or two old; for the latest model you will in the end pay even if the
cost is hidden in ane xpensive plan or an extra fee you pay for 24 months.
People here sometimes don't think this through, they are told an iPhone 16 Gb
128 Gb is $42.50 a months over 24 months which comes to $1,020, then they see
the phone at Apple is $1,449 and they think they are saving $400. Then maybe
the carrier gives them a couple of hundred for their old phone which they could
sell for probably at least 50% more if they sold it privately and it's an even
better deal. They don't consider that they either have to give the phone back
after 2 years and again sign up for an expensiv e monthly charge for the next
new phone or they are then surprised if they are charged a buy-out fee so they
can keep the phone..

Subject: Re: Purchasing a phone from Apple rather than from your carrier pluses
and minuses

Hi Mary,

I always prefer to get my phones directly from Apple. Generally, it tends to be
a lot less complicated. The only reason, at least in my opinion, to get a phone
through your carrier is if your carrier is offering such a good deal That makes
it worth the while.
