The gestures being turned off happened to me, too. When I found out, I was in a situation where I needed to type in something, as it were, right now, and it wouldn't work. I turned them back on and luckily, it wasnt too late to get it typed in.

I am replying using Braille Screen Input. It working like always for me.

I engage it by double tapping with one finger at the top and one at the bottom of the screen.

Also on 18.1 but on the 16 pro, but that shouldn't matter.
