How many songs are in your collection? If it's under 25,000, iTunes Match will let you store them in the cloud no matter where you bought them. There's a limit of 25,000 songs not purchased from iTunes that you can have.
Dropbox would work fine but you'd have to pay for all that cloud storage, which could be rather expensive. iTunes Match is just one low $25 per year. With Dropbox you'd have to pay per gigabyte, and you may well have 100+ GBs of music. Also with iTunes Match, you have the flexibility to decide which songs you want to keep on your devices and which you'd like to have exclusively in the cloud.
