Wait, so you had to erase the iPhone to replace the battery?
I already talked to someone at my local Apple store, and he said that
they would replace my battery when it gets below 80 percent, even though
I didn't buy the 13 Mini from Apple. I would have to pay for that of
course. But I just figured that you would power down the iPhone, take
out the old battery, put in the new one, and then power it up again.
So that is not correct?

This will be kind of a long message, but there's no questions in it,
just my experience with replacing the battery in my iPhone 13 Mini,
since I'm not quite ready to give up that small device yet.
Contacting Apple: I couldn't find an option to mail in my iPhone for
the battery replacement when I checked online, so I opted to do an
online chat instead of making a phone call to Apple. The chat was easy
enough to figure out how to use, the support person had me run a test
on the phone to confirm the battery qualified for the replacement, and
then she set up the return and sent me the confirming email.
A couple of things to note here. First, since she looked at my
account, I just kind of figured she saw I had the AppleCare+, but I
guess she didn't notice and was going to charge me $101 and change
until I made her aware and she correctly eliminated the charge. And
second, since I was given the chance to save a PDF copy of the
transcript of our chat, I didn't save a text copy of it myself.
However, although I tried with Adobe And Jaws accessibility processes,
the only program I could use to get the PDF transcript read correctly
was the KNFB/OneStep Reader.
Sending the phone to Apple: I didn't really have any problems with
getting the phone to and back from Apple. My brother helped me with
sending back the iPhone in the box I received from Apple, and I
chatted with Apple on a Monday, and then I had the iPhone back with
the replaced battery by the very next Monday, so a quick turnaround
for everything. One kind of weird thing to note, though, was that the
box I was to send back the iPhone in came via FedEx, but the box
itself inside needed to be sent back VIA UPS, as that was the label
sent to me for that box.
Getting the phone back and setting it up: I was kind of surprised when
I saw the following in the paper enclosed with my iPhone explaining
what all they had done, as I was only expecting them to just replace
the battery: Our technicians have successfully repaired your product.
They ran complete diagnostic tests, performed all available
troubleshooting, and replaced the following items:
Item Number Description
661-21804 Red, 128GB, Logic Board Assy Rear
System, NAMM, 13 mini
Sympt Sensor ,Accelerometer/Gyroscope/Barometer
Thus, I called Apple this time, not wanting to deal with the chat, and
they checked and finally confirmed that the battery was replaced, as
well as all these other things, but the outside of the phone was still
the same. In fact, after talking with Apple and finally getting the
phone set back up, I was able to confirm by its 100% maximum capacity
that the battery had indeed been replaced. Also, with these
replacements, I got a new serial number for the phone, as well as new
IMEI numbers, and then I'm now getting offers for all the free three
month trials such as Apple TV and Apple Music that normally come with
a new phone.
And finally, of course I had to set up the phone just like a new
phone, having completely erased it as instructed before sending it in,
and it took me a little bit of time to figure out just how to get it
set up. I mean, it would let me connect to my 15 Pro to try and start
the phone transfer, but as I could only connect via Personal Hotspot,
I kept getting the message that the transfer couldn't be completed.
Thus, I finally just chose the manual setup, connected to the 15 Pro
Hotspot to get through that process, said no to all the options to get
to the welcome screen where I could then use the iPhone, and then I
transferred my E SIM back from the 15 Pro as I put it there as a
secondary SIM while the 13 Mini was away, then I erased the 13 Mini
again, and then it let me transfer my info from the 15 Pro by opting
to use my cellular data on the Mini rather than connecting to a Wi-Fi
network. Although, I had forgotten that I left the Hotspot on in the
15 Pro, so after all the settings and app placeholders or whatever had
been transferred over to the 13 Mini and it had rebooted, it then did
connect to the 15 Pro Hotspot and put all the apps back on the phone,
although I did, as per usual, have to double tap on each app to get
the download to start.
