Oh, it could be that without Voiceover, the answer is just displayed on the screen, not spoken. I know that did not used to be the ccase, but it is my guess that it is a possibility now in this case.

I then went back to automatic responses and tried again without VoiceOver on and it spoke its response. I then switched again to prefer spoken responses and turned VoiceOver off and asked about the NFL game today and it spoke. Conclusion, it is inconsistatt, which is not helpful. But try changing the settings a couple times and see what happens. This a 16 pro running iOS 18.1.1.
