Perhaps, but I always keep them in the case when I’m not wearing them, and I always make sure my case is charged.

I noticed this with my Airpods 4, if I take them out of my ears they disconnect, but if I leave them on my side table or desk without putting them in the case, they are dead in a few hours which would seem to indicate they are still on in some way.
